Paraglider crashed 10 meters on the Hochwurzen

Dramatic incident Friday morning on the Hochwurzen in the Styrian district of Liezen: Shortly after take-off, the glider of a paraglider collapsed, the pilot (37) from Salzburg fell ten meters onto a slope and was seriously injured.

At around 11 a.m., the 37-year-old was near the Hochwurzen mountain station when his glider collapsed just a few seconds after take-off below the summit slope for reasons that are still unknown. The man from Salzburg then plummeted around ten meters.

Paragliding colleague alerted the emergency services
Another paraglider pilot saw the accident, landed in the area of the middle station and immediately made an emergency call. The man suffered serious injuries in the crash. He had to be flown to Schwarzach hospital.

The Schladming and Rohrmoos-Untertal volunteer fire departments assisted the crew of the Martin 1 emergency helicopter and the Red Cross in treating the casualty and provided stretcher assistance to the helicopter.

Alpine police investigating
The cause of the accident is currently unclear, the Leoben public prosecutor's office ordered the seizure of the paraglider. The Alpine Police (AEG-Liezen) are now conducting further investigations.
