Fire department had to rescue young cattle from slurry pit

An unusual operation for the fire department in Auffach in the Wildschönau region of Tyrol: on Friday evening, the team had to rescue a young cow that had fallen into a slurry pit on a mountain pasture.

At around 8.30 p.m., the fire department was alerted to the operation above the Hintere Aschbachalm in the Wildschönau district of Auffach. The animal had fallen into a slurry pit at a stable for young cattle - with no chance of getting out on its own. 

Rescued under veterinary supervision
Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and waders then climbed down to the animal and put a rescue harness on it. With the help of a tractor, it was then lifted out of the slurry pit under the supervision of the vet who had been called in. The young animal was then given a good shower.
