Braunöder joins Serie A promoted Como on a permanent deal

Serie A promoted Como have signed Matthias Braunöder from Vienna Austria. As the Bundesliga club announced on Friday, the Lombards have exercised the purchase option for the midfielder that was anchored in his loan contract.

Braunöder had been on loan to Como since the end of January. After initial difficulties, the 22-year-old made the leap into the first eleven of the team. Austria is said to have received a reported 1.7 million euros for the home-grown player.

Braunöder signed a contract with Como until June 2027. The U21 national team captain played a total of 13 games for the club in the spring, which remained unbeaten with him in the starting eleven and finished second behind Parma in Serie A after a 21-year break. The most prominent name at the club is Cesc Fabregas. The Spaniard is nominally co-coach behind Welshman Osian Roberts due to a missing license, but sets the sporting direction.

"We are delighted for 'Motz' and are proud that an Austria kid has made it in Italy and can play Serie A next season. Of course, his departure was and is not easy for the club, but he absolutely wanted to make this move to Como in the winter and has absolutely seized his opportunity," said Austria sporting director Manuel Ortlechner on the transfer.

Braunöder came through the entire youth ranks at Austria and made his professional debut in 2021. Braunöder said of his upcoming tasks: "I think it's the right place for me to develop further, both athletically and personally."
