Xavier Naidoo charged with incitement of the people

The public prosecutor's office in Mannheim has charged musician Xavier Naidoo with incitement of the people. The 52-year-old is alleged to have shared a video and a picture with anti-Semitic content on a Telegram channel. The material is also said to have denied the Holocaust.

The incident took place in March 2021. The singer's lawyers ("Dieser Weg", "Abschied nehmen") confirmed the charges, but denied the allegations. "There are not only considerable legal objections to the allegations, but above all there are very substantial objections in fact. These prove the innocence of our client," it said in a press release.

Controversial political statements
Naidoo has long been controversial due to his political statements. He has been accused of anti-Semitism, racism, homophobia and conspiracy theories. In the song "Nie mehr Krieg", for example, he says that Muslimas and Muslims would wear the new Jewish star. After rapping about the danger posed by migrants entering Germany, the musician lost his job on "Deutschland sucht den Superstar."
