Car hits pedestrians: 5 people injured, some seriously

A violent accident on Wednesday evening in Vienna's Ottakring district: a 24-year-old driver hit a group of pedestrians with his car during a dangerous evasive maneuver. Five people were injured, some of them seriously.

The 24-year-old was driving his BMW on Lerchenfelder Gürtel at around 8.45 p.m. when a vehicle braked in front of him. The young man then quickly changed lanes to the right - but there were several parked vehicles there.

To avoid colliding with the parked cars, the man abruptly steered his car to the right and ended up on the sidewalk.

Three men taken to the shock room
Several men standing outside a pub were hit by the car. Three of the men, aged 24, 40 and 46, were seriously injured. The Vienna Emergency Medical Services team provided first aid and took the seriously injured men to hospital, where they were immediately taken to the trauma room.

Two other passers-by escaped with bruises. The 25-year-old and the 48-year-old received first aid from a team from the Green Cross and were also taken to hospital.

The 24-year-old driver involved in the accident was charged with negligent bodily harm in road traffic. Further investigations are underway.
