About the S-Link

Politicians did not want an expert opinion before the survey

There were already legal concerns about the question beforehand. City politicians spoke out against a clarification.

As reported, there are considerable doubts about the legitimacy of the public consultation on the S-Link. The vote last fall should never have taken place in this form, according to regional legist Paul Sieberer. The S-Link is a supra-regional project and therefore exceeds the scope of the municipality. And he argues that there should only be a public consultation on such issues. At the time, however, the city politicians overrode the legal concerns in the main electoral authority with representatives from all parties.

There was no reason to rush last late summer. The start of construction on the major project is still not in sight. The trial judge therefore suggested a legal opinion to be on the safe side. Because, to quote from the minutes of the main electoral authority, "a lot of money is involved and you have to think about official liability". However, the politicians brushed these concerns aside. The majority of the people of Salzburg then voted against the S-Link.
