Officers injured with scalpel in Viennese belt bar

At around 1.45 a.m. on Friday, officers from the Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus and Ottakring municipal police commandos were called to a pub on the Mariahilfer Gürtel. A 35-year-old man had pulled out a knife.

When the police arrived at the restaurant, they found a 35-year-old Turkish citizen who had allegedly threatened a customer with a knife.

However, when asked, the suspect stated that he was not carrying any sharp or pointed objects. This turned out to be a lie during the personal search.

Scalpel hidden in trouser pocket
One police officer, for example, injured his index finger with a scalpel, which the 35-year-old tried to hide in his back trouser pocket with the tip pointing upwards.

Another officer injured his lower leg when various other objects were brought to light early in the morning. The 35-year-old was provisionally arrested on suspicion of making dangerous threats. He is in police custody.

The officers involved underwent a medical examination. Further medical examinations and clarifications will follow.
