A neighborhood dispute in Vienna's Hietzing district escalated completely on Wednesday afternoon: an 80-year-old man attacked his 51-year-old neighbor with an irritant gas pistol, who in turn defended himself by punching the pensioner in the face.

The two neighbors clashed again at around 4.30 pm. The argument was about a hallway window - as it had been several times in the past. One of them would rather have the window closed, the other insisted that it remain open.

In the course of the argument, the 80-year-old suddenly used an irritant gas pistol. The 51-year-old then hit the older man in the face with his fist. 

The two men had been arguing for some time over a corridor window.

The police arrived and issued a temporary weapons ban against the pensioner, and the irritant gas pistol was confiscated.

Both men were treated by the Vienna Emergency Services, the 80-year-old was taken to hospital with minor injuries. The 51-year-old, who was also slightly injured, refused hospital treatment.
