Fraudsters promised interest, plundered account

Investing in cryptocurrency was probably not what a 69-year-old East Tyrolean had in mind: The man from Schlaiten was hoping for high interest profits, but has now lost more than a thousand euros instead. 

The man registered on a website in the belief that he was investing in a cryptocurrency with a high interest rate. He subsequently received repeated phone calls in which various people claimed to be brokers and asked him to install a computer program. 

The fraudsters used this program to gain access to the victim's account and subsequently withdrew the money. According to the police, the loss amounts to a four-figure sum.
