Turbulence: stewardess breaks her spine

Due to strong turbulence on a flight from Istanbul to Izmir, a flight attendant was thrown against the ceiling of the plane and seriously injured. It is already the third incident of this kind within a few days.

Unforeseen turbulence has now occurred on a Turkish Airways domestic flight from Istanbul to Izmir, as reported by NTV in reference to the Turkish newspaper "Hurriyet".

According to the report, the plane suddenly descended, causing a flight attendant to be thrown against the ceiling. She is said to have broken her back when she hit the ground.

The pilot had warned the crew and passengers of turbulence shortly beforehand, but the flight attendant, who had only worked for the airline for a short time, had not managed to fasten her seatbelt in time. There were reportedly no other injuries.

Third incident already
This is the third time in just a few days that there have been injuries on board due to severe turbulence during a flight. Last weekend, twelve passengers were injured on a Qatar Airways flight from Doha to Dublin when the aircraft suddenly descended.

A few days earlier, a flight from London to Singapore also experienced severe turbulence. Around one hundred people were injured, some of them seriously. In addition, a 73-year-old British man died - presumably from a heart attack.
