Wildcats are also looking for a habitat in Salzburg

Forest areas are the ideal habitat for the four-legged friends. However, this resource is limited and does not exactly make everyday life easy for wildcats in Salzburg.

Wildcats are probably never extinct in this country, as was believed for decades, experts from the Nature Conservation Association have now confirmed once again. Some of the "particularly secretive animals" hid in forests and were perhaps mistaken for stray domestic cats. Wildcats are currently being spotted and identified more frequently - including in Salzburg.

However, the animals are dependent on larger forest areas as their habitat. The Nature Conservation Association used a computer model to investigate where in Austria there are suitable forests for the shy animals. The conclusion: "Salzburg has the smallest possible habitat and the lowest number of actual wildcat records."
