Seven arrests after ham robbery in Italy

The stolen goods are said to have had a total value of 200,000 euros.

Italian investigators have apparently succeeded in arresting the suspected thieves of a spectacular ham robbery. The stolen goods were the finest Italian prosciutto, which was stolen last year in north-eastern Italy.

The carabinieri of the Friulian town of Latisana near Udine caught seven people who allegedly stole 1500 legs of smoked ham worth over 200,000 euros last April. The ham had been stolen from a production plant in Rivignano Teor near Udine.

Videos convicted the thieves
The suspects, who were arrested in the regions of Lombardy and Apulia, were identified using video surveillance footage, the investigators reported.

The vehicles were also located, including three articulated lorries used to transport the large quantity of Italian prosciutto. The investigators had assumed that the theft had been commissioned.
