Crashed with hang glider and seriously injured

Serious flying accident on Sunday in East Tyrol! A 58-year-old German crashed his hang-glider during take-off difficulties and was seriously injured. He had to be taken to hospital.

Shortly before 1.30 p.m., the man wanted to take off with his hang glider in the municipality of Gaimberg at the "Ebnerfeld" launch site at 1397 meters above sea level for a high-altitude flight. Shortly after take-off, however, the German lost altitude due to insufficient approach speed and touched the meadow ground with the steering trapeze.

"The hang glider then tipped forwards and the 58-year-old crashed into the trapeze of the glider," said the police. The man suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital in Lienz. The hang glider sustained material damage.
