Climate campaigners injured during actions in Vorarlberg

In the middle of the Whitsun weekend traffic, climate activists held actions at several locations in Austria. In view of the resulting traffic obstructions, some drivers probably blew a fuse ...

At around 10 a.m., activists from the "Last Generation" and "Extinction Rebellion" started two protest actions at the Lustenau border crossing and at the Hohenems traffic circle (A14), also near the border with Switzerland/Diepoldsau. According to the police, some of the climate demonstrators had also stuck themselves to the road.

The resulting traffic jam led to scuffles by some drivers, and angry passers-by and drivers sometimes tried to get the activists off the road themselves. One demonstrator was lightly hit by a car as the driver tried to continue his journey.

A total of three activists suffered minor abrasions, according to the police. The officers finally intervened, broke up the assembly and removed the climate stickers from the road after the laborious process of removing them from the road.

There were also actions in Salzburg and Tyrol, some of which caused massive traffic obstructions. In general, however, it was mainly due to Whitsun travel that drivers had to put up with massive waiting times in some cases.
