Straka starts PGA Championship with a par round

Golf pro Sepp Straka did not manage more than a par round on the first day of the PGA Championship in Louisville/Kentucky. The Austrian, who lives in the USA, was already three over par on Thursday after a bogey and a double bogey, but still managed a round of 71 at Valhalla Golf Club thanks to three birdies on his last six holes. 

The 48-year-old crowd favorite Tiger Woods played a round of 72 (1 over par).

The US American Xander Schauffele produced a strong opening round with 62 strokes and nine under par. The Northern Irish co-favorite Rory McIlroy was also among the leaders with 66 strokes. Top favorite Scottie Scheffler had not yet finished his round.
