French Open pays out 53.48 million euros in prize money

The prize money at the French Open tennis tournament, which starts in a week's time on Sunday, has been increased again, by 7.82 percent to be precise. A total of 53.48 million euros will be paid out at Roland Garros.

The respective singles champions will receive 2.4 million euros, the finalists 1.2 million euros each. A first-round defeat still earns 73,000 euros, a first-round victory 110,000 euros (all amounts gross).

The most sensational innovation at the huge facility in the west of Paris, which has been extensively modernized over the past five years, provides some relief on rainy days: after the Stade Roland Garros, Court Suzanne Lenglen, the second largest arena at the second Grand Slam tournament of the year, has also been given a retractable roof.
