Swiss discuss third gender

Following the victory of the Swiss singer Nemo at the Eurovision Song Contest, the debate about the third gender entry has flared up again in our neighboring country. Several tens of thousands of people should define themselves as neither a woman nor a man.

This is according to Sandro Niederer from Transgender Network Switzerland, who is hoping for improvements for so-called non-binary people. The goal would be a third gender entry or alternatively no gender entry at all for those affected. Non-binary people experience discrimination, but are now also being listened to, as Nemo's victory shows. Society is ready to adapt.

Minister of Justice wants to meet Nemo
Nemo is also campaigning for a third gender entry in Switzerland. The artist was greeted by around a hundred fans at Zurich Airport late on Sunday evening. Many of them were carrying banners and flags in the non-binary colors of yellow, white, purple and black. The reception was "mega", Nemo said happily. "It showed me how nice it is to be part of a community." 

People who feel neither male nor female need a voice and need to be heard. The man from Biel said in November that he is non-binary (see video above).

Now the Swiss Minister of Justice and Police and SP Federal Councillor Beat Jans wants to meet with him for a discussion. Nemo says he is already looking forward to having coffee with the minister soon.
