The Galtür volunteer fire department was alerted to the fire shortly after 6.30 pm. "When the emergency services arrived, the detached beehive measuring around six by four meters was already fully engulfed in flames," said the police.
Fire quickly under control
The flames also spread to the adjacent embankment. Fortunately, the fire was quickly brought under control and extinguished by the firefighters. The operation ended at around 7.45 pm.

As it turned out during the police investigation, a 73-year-old beekeeper had been working in the hut and on the beehives outside about an hour before the fire broke out. According to the investigators, a so-called smoker was also being used.
No bee colonies in the hut
The beehive burned down completely. The amount of damage caused cannot yet be quantified. "There were no bee colonies in the apiary at the time of the incident," concluded the investigators.
