Young firefighter trumps tough competition

Gold success for Lena Unger! The dedicated firefighter from Stegersbach beat off all the competition with flying colors. There was high praise from Governor Hans Peter Doskozil himself.

Our Florianis do a great job all year round. In Burgenland, the units are called out to an average of 22 operations every day. In order to be able to help quickly and professionally, great importance is attached to in-depth training and regular training.

Courageous, courageous
Lena Unger from Stegersbach sets a good example. The 23-year-old has impressively demonstrated all her skills as a firefighter at a nationwide performance competition. Highly motivated, she prevailed against 53 men and six women in a total of eight disciplines. Lena Unger is now the new state winner of the firefighter performance badge in gold.

After her success, the young woman from southern Burgenland was able to visit Governor Hans Peter Doskozil in his office, who warmly congratulated her on her victory. "Lena Unger has demonstrated her outstanding commitment," emphasized Doskozil. He also thanked all 309 fire departments in Burgenland, which already have more than 18,000 members, including 14,000 active ones, who work around the clock to rescue people, put out fires, salvage wrecks or pump out flooded cellars.

455 people rescued
No matter what happens, Florianis are there to help. "We can be proud of our fire departments. Their services for the benefit of all Burgenlanders are indispensable," says the governor. His praise is backed up by current figures: In 2023 alone, the volunteers rescued 455 people from emergency situations. Doskozil: "We will continue to invest heavily in their training and equipment in the future."
