Export licenses expired: Intel with sales warning
According to Intel, the USA has revoked some of the US chip manufacturer's export licenses for deliveries to a customer in China. This will have a negative impact on the Group's sales in the second quarter, Intel announced in a statement to the SEC. The company did not name the Chinese customer.
However, it was only on Tuesday that the US government withdrew some export licenses for deliveries to Huawei - and while the Chinese telecommunications group hardly plays a role in the smartphone market in the West due to the lack of Google software, it remains more relevant in the laptop market thanks to the continued availability of technology from US manufacturers Intel and AMD.
Last month, the Chinese cell phone and laptop manufacturer launched its first laptop designed for artificial intelligence (AI), which is powered by an Intel processor. Huawei also sources parts from Qualcomm, the world's largest supplier of smartphone chips.
Intel continues to expect quarterly sales of between 12.5 billion and 13.5 billion dollars, but below the midpoint. The company's shares fell by two percent following the warning.
