"A lot to digest"
World champion dropped from the Swiss squad
Five years ago he was world champion in the team competition, now he has been dropped from the Swiss squad: Sandro Simonet. "Skiing is my great passion and I have often fought for it," says the 28-year-old.
The technical specialist made it onto the podium once in the World Cup, finishing third in the Chamonix slalom in January 2021. At the World Championships in Aare in 2019, he won the gold medal with his Swiss colleagues.
The past season was one to forget for Simonet, the results were lacking. As a result, he was dropped from the squad and had to return to his regional association.
"There was a lot to digest"
"It was quiet here. When little happens online, it's often because there's a lot going on offline. There was a lot to digest and some decisions to make. In April, what was already apparent to me in January became a reality," the Swiss rider wrote dejectedly on Instagram. Without results, there was simply no place in the squad for him, Simonet said.
But giving up is not an option for the team world champion. "Now it will be a completely different battle, but I'm going for it. The journey continues!" says Simonet optimistically.
