600,000 euros damage
Firebug cannot remember fires
A 38-year-old Latvian citizen was arrested in Tyrol after he was suspected of setting a fire in the underground parking garage of Klosterneuburg Abbey. The man denied the allegations and claimed that he could not remember the deeds due to excessive alcohol consumption.
The fire, which broke out on April 15, caused damage of up to 600,000 euros. Eleven fire departments with around 150 members were deployed to extinguish the fire. Five people were taken to hospital for treatment.
Video recordings
The Klosterneuburg police and the Provincial Criminal Police Office identified the suspect with the help of video recordings from the underground parking garage. He was arrested in Tyrol on April 23 and later transferred to Korneuburg prison.
In addition to arson, the 38-year-old is also charged with three cases of damage to property, including setting fire to mattresses in hostels in Vienna and Salzburg and the theft of a toilet bag and a purse in various accommodations.
