One year after being sacked: Kahn celebrates “comeback”
Bayern Munich face Real Madrid in the big Champions League clash on Wednesday(live in the ticker on sportkrone.at). For the first time since his sacking a year ago, former boss Oliver Kahn will take a seat in the stands at a match of the record champions and celebrate his Bayern "stadium comeback".
As the Bild newspaper reported online on Tuesday, the 54-year-old will be a guest at the Bernabeu at Real's invitation. It is therefore very likely that Kahn will meet his former Bayern colleagues in the VIP area of the stadium, with most of whom he did not part on good terms.
The former keeper was dismissed in May of last year on the last Bundesliga matchday. There has been a discussion with club president Herbert Hainer in recent months, but he does not have the best relationship with his successor Jan-Christian Dreesen and club icon Uli Hoeneß, writes "Bild".
Quarrel with Hoeneß
In retrospect, Hoeneß described Kahn's appointment as CEO as a "big mistake" and also criticized the allegedly lax attitude of the 2002 World Cup runner-up. Kahn did not take this lying down and replied that Hoeneß' comments "do not necessarily contribute to respectful cooperation".
