Room fire in Thal: possible smoke inhalation
An entire room in Thal was on fire on Saturday night. 62 firefighters had to be deployed and were kept busy until the early hours of the morning. A 51-year-old man and his 17-year-old child were taken to Graz Regional Hospital with suspected smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is still unclear.
In the middle of the night on Saturday, a fire broke out on the upper floor of a residential building in Thal. Shortly after midnight, the residents were shocked to discover that an entire room was on fire. Fortunately, they were able to get outside quickly enough and alert the emergency services.
The Steinberg-Rohrbach, Hitzendorf and Berndorf fire departments and the Sappi Gratkorn plant fire department rushed to the scene. They immediately set about extinguishing the fire using a telescopic boom lift.
Suspected smoke inhalation
A total of 62 firefighters and five breathing apparatus teams were on site, and two police patrols also arrived at the scene. A 51-year-old man and his 17-year-old child were suspected of suffering from smoke inhalation and were taken to Graz Regional Hospital.
The fire was put out at half past three in the morning, but the clean-up work continued until six o'clock, reports Markus Dirnberger from the Steinber-Rohrbach fire department. "The cause of the fire is currently unclear," he says.
