There was little frost damage to the strawberry harvest this year; fleece coverings and foil tunnels helped against the cold. But the price hike is not stopping at the fruit bushes either: find out here what accounts for most of the price increase and where you can pay how much for the sweet red fruit.

"Because the strawberries started to ripen so soon this year, we had to spread the straw early," says Rudolf Wiesmayr from Meindlhumerhof in Scharten. "That was a big problem with the cold, because the straw insulated the ground heat." Fortunately, the fruit grower was able to protect the plants from the slightly sub-zero temperatures with a fleece so that most of the strawberries survived.
