Senior citizen caught in wood splitter – finger severed

A terrible accident at work on Thursday morning in the Tyrolean lowlands: a 72-year-old local woman got her hand caught in a log splitter in Kirchberg and severed her fingers in the process. The seriously injured woman was flown by helicopter to the hospital in Innsbruck.

The devastating accident happened at around 10.30 am. The 72-year-old woman was busy splitting firewood with a hydraulic log splitter in Kirchberg.

"She got her hand between the wood and the splitting wedge, causing serious injuries to her fingers," reported the police. When asked by "Krone", it was reported that the pensioner had completely severed one finger and partially severed another.

To the hospital by helicopter
A relative set the rescue chain in motion. After initial treatment at the scene, the seriously injured woman was flown by emergency helicopter to the hospital in Innsbruck.
