Operation in Germany
Reichsbürger threatened police officers with a knife
A self-proclaimed Reichsbürger (citizen of the Reich) triggered an operation by the SEK special police unit near Düsseldorf late on Tuesday evening. The man had threatened police officers with a knife, but was overpowered and arrested.
The police had initially been called to an apartment building because of damage to property. The man had damaged a door. When the officers arrived, the 30-year-old threatened them with a knife, according to the police. He also shouted that he hated the police and was a Reichsbürger.
Because the man locked himself in his apartment, the special forces were called in to help. The SEK broke down the door and overpowered him. The man is now in custody and the investigation is ongoing.
Rejection of all state institutions
In the so-called Reichsbürger scene, the prevailing view is that the historical German Reich, founded in 1871 with an emperor at the head, still exists today and that all state institutions should therefore be rejected as illegitimate.
