Carolina and Colorado advance to round two

The Carolina Hurricanes and the Colorado Avalanche are through to the second round of the NHL play-offs. Carolina defeated the New York Islanders 6-3 on Tuesday to earn the necessary fourth win and will now face the New York Rangers.

Colorado also won game five against the Winnipeg Jets 6-3 to advance. Meanwhile, the Toronto Maple Leafs avoided elimination by forcing a sixth game against the Boston Bruins.

The Canadiens won 2-1 after overtime, while the Bruins lead 3-2 after wins. The Nashville Predators also earned another game by beating the Vancouver Canucks 2-1.
