Vienna: Man attacks neighbor with meat cleaver

A late-night argument escalated in Vienna-Floridsdorf on Tuesday night: A 38-year-old man, who was sitting together with three friends in his council apartment in the Donaufeld district and was probably not exactly quiet, attacked his 30-year-old neighbor with a meat cleaver and a kitchen knife.

The man wanted to injure his neighbor in the abdominal area with the weapon. However, according to police spokesman Mattias Schuster, the victim was able to fend off the attack. The apartments are likely to be residential units in an old municipal building, with the toilet in the corridor. When two of his friends had to use it, the 38-year-old Algerian citizen probably used the time to attack his neighbor.

Neighbor was able to get to safety
He forced his way into the neighbor's apartment and attacked him with his weapons. The 30-year-old escaped with minor injuries to his hand and managed to get to safety. The 38-year-old was arrested in his apartment. The officers banned him from entering and approaching the apartment and issued a temporary weapons ban.
