Lifetime achievement award
Sparkling Nicole Kidman with daughters on the red carpet
The shiny gold Balenciaga gown was the perfect outfit for the glittering evening: Nicole Kidman (56) was presented with the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award at a gala event in Hollywood on Sunday night. Special highlight: The Oscar winner brought her beautiful daughters to the red carpet.
Kidman strolled down the red carpet in front of the Dolby Theatre, where the Oscars are traditionally presented, with her husband Keith Urban and their daughters Sunday Rose (15) and Faith Margaret (13).
"Babygirl - I'm so proud of you," wrote country star Urban on the platform X, formerly Twitter.
The list of previous award winners would speak volumes. The singer listed all 49 recipients, from John Ford in 1973 to Kidman, whose name he added a red heart.
Numerous stars congratulated
Stars such as Meryl Streep, Morgan Freeman, Naomi Watts and Reese Witherspoon paid tribute to Nicole Kidman on this special evening. This was the first time that the coveted award from the American Film Institute (AFI) had gone to an actress or actor from Australia.
"Deeply moved by all the support worldwide," Kidman wrote on Instagram. She thanked the American Film Institute for including her in this "illustrious group of award winners".
The organization praised Kidman as a "true screen icon" who embodies the glamour of old Hollywood but is also willing to take risks in her choice of roles.
Kidman has appeared in films such as "Deathly Silence", "Days of Thunder", "To Die For", "Eyes Wide Shut", "Moulin Rouge", "Dogville" and "Being the Ricardos". She won the Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role in 2003 for "The Hours". With a big nose in the unpretentious role of the depressive writer Virginia Woolf, she was almost unrecognizable.
The AFI Life Achievement Award, which has been presented since 1973, honors people whose work has enriched the American art of film. In addition to Streep and Freeman, previous recipients include Sean Connery, Michael Douglas, Jane Fonda, Dustin Hoffman, Steven Spielberg, Diane Keaton, George Clooney and Denzel Washington.
