Islanders and Tampa with first wins in the play-offs
The New York Islanders and Tampa Bay Lightning averted the quickest possible elimination from the play-offs of the North American Ice Hockey League (NHL) on Saturday.
The Islanders won the fourth game of their "best of seven" series against the Carolina Hurricanes 3:2 after two overtimes and thus reduced the deficit to 1:3, as did the Tampa Bay Lightning. The 2020 and 2021 Stanley Cup winners defeated the Florida Panthers 6-3 at home.
First play-off defeat for Vegas
By contrast, the defending champion Vegas Golden Knights suffered their first defeat in this year's play-offs in the Western Conference. The team from Las Vegas lost at home to the Dallas Stars 2:3 after overtime and now only leads the series 2:1.
The Boston Bruins took a 3-1 lead in their series with a 3-1 away win at the Toronto Maple Leafs. Brad Marchand scored his 56th playoff goal for the Bruins, setting a club record.
