Five people killed after tornado in southern China

Five people were killed in a tornado in the southern Chinese metropolis of Guangzhou on Saturday. 33 people were injured.

According to official figures, the storm damaged 141 factory buildings, but no residential buildings collapsed. As reported by Xinhua, the rescue work is said to be largely complete.

100,000 residents evacuated
Just a week ago, Guangzhou and the surrounding province of Guangdong were hit by torrential rainfall, in which at least four people lost their lives and over 100,000 residents had to be evacuated.

Guangzhou has a population of over 18 million. The provincial capital is one of the most important economic centers in the People's Republic.
