Three Austrians on the start list for the Giro d’Italia

The Giro d'Italia, the first of the three Grand Tours in cycling, begins on May 4.

 According to the provisional start list, three Austrians will also be taking part, three Upper Austrians to be precise. The 30-year-old Felix Großschartner will be a noble helper in the UAE team of top favorite Tadej Pogacar (SLO). Rainer Kepplinger (Bahrain) and Tobias Bayer (Alpecin) will also tackle the 3,400.8 kilometers over 21 stages to the finish in Rome on May 26.

Großschartner and Kepplinger are still preparing for the Giro this week at the Tour de Romandie. A total of 176 riders from 22 teams are taking part in the first major national tour. The winners from 2021 to 2023, Egan Bernal, Jai Hindley and Primoz Roglic, are not taking part.
