Rumors are swirling
Spain to supply Kiev with Patriot missiles
According to a newspaper report, Spain is planning to supply Ukraine with a number of missiles for the Patriot air defense system. So far, the Ministry of Defense in Madrid has not commented on this information.
Although the government has ruled out a complete Patriot system delivery, it intends to provide some missiles, according to the newspaper "El Pais" on Friday.
Spain is said to have three Patriot batteries, which were purchased second-hand from Germany in 2004 and 2014.
According to its ambassador to Germany, Olexiy Makeyev, Ukraine needs seven new Patriot air defense systems. He praised the fact that Germany had provided one of them.
Ukraine's call for weapons
In view of the Russian missile and drone attacks, Ukraine has long been asking its Western allies for more air defense weapons. Germany has announced that it will supply a third Patriot system and has called on other countries to examine the possibility of a delivery.
According to Makeyev, the government in Kiev hopes that further states will make commitments at today's meeting in the so-called "Rammstein format" of Ukraine-supporting countries.
