Vacation flights take off: These are the destinations from Linz

Today, Sunday, summer 2024 really gets underway at Hörsching Airport with the Mallorca connection. Managing Director Norbert Draskovits is delighted about the expanded Greek offer with the "little ones" and the great popularity. Flight number EW 6867; destination: Palma de Mallorca; scheduled departure: 9.25 am! When the Eurowings plane takes off for the Balearic island today, Sunday, it will also be something of a secret summer kick-off for Linz Airport. Until the end of September, the German airline will be connecting Upper Austria twice a week with the destination that has much more to offer than the famous Ballermann.

Twelve flights a week to Greece
What else does the summer from Linz have to offer? Twelve flights a week to Greece, whereby in addition to the classics Crete, Rhodes and Kos, the island of Kefalonia, which was newly flown to last year, is also back in the program. Airport boss Norbert Draskovits is particularly proud that Skiathos and the combination of Lefkas & Epirus have been added for 2024.

"We have now closed the gap of the small Greek islands," says the 64-year-old. European Air Charter has once again parked an aircraft in Linz, while Corendon Airlines, Mavi Gök Airlines, avantiair and Eurowings are also becoming vacation airlines.

The pandemic and strike-related flight cancellations in Vienna and Germany are ensuring that travelers prefer to book all-inclusive packages again and go to travel agencies to do so. Draskovits: "Package tours are experiencing a revival."

Interesting: While Upper Austrians also like to fly from Vienna, Salzburg or Munich airports, Hörsching is also successfully "fishing" outside of its home province: "We have passengers from Lower Austria, Bavaria, Upper Austria and Salzburg. Around Whitsun, many come to us from the Passau area because of the vacations in Bavaria."
