Bitter! Austria narrowly defeated runners-up in the World Championship
Austria's national ice hockey team lost the first of two World Championship test games against Germany after a good performance!
The ÖEHV team lost 2:4 (1:2, 1:0, 0:2) to the runners-up of the World Championship in Garmisch-Partenkirchen on Thursday. The Austrians overturned an early 2-0 deficit, but conceded two goals in the final period. On Saturday (4:15 p.m.), the return game will take place in Zell/See, where team boss Roger Bader will have top-class reinforcements at his disposal for the first time in the form of around a dozen players from the two ICE finalists Salzburg and KAC.
Austria - with David Kickert in goal - started well and had a first great chance through Dominic Zwerger (7th), but were unfortunate to fall behind. A shot by Marc Michaelis would have gone wide, but hit the foot of Nico Brunner, from whom the puck bounced into the goal (8.). Michaelis increased the lead to 2:0 after an unnecessary disc loss behind the goal (11.). However, Roger Bader's team shrugged off the two setbacks and managed to tie the scores through Benjamin Baumgartner, who converted his own rebound (16').
In a pressure phase towards the end of the middle third, the ÖEHV team rewarded itself with the equalizer through Lukas Kainz (38'), who shot directly after a Heinrich pass. The Austrians carried their momentum into the final third, with a shot from Brunner landing on the crossbar (42'). After that, however, the hosts became stronger again and scored through Daniel Fischbuch (50th) and Parker Tuomie (52nd/PP) to secure victory.

Germany - Austria 4:2 (2:1, 0:1, 2:0)

Goals: Michaelis (8th, 11th), Fischbuch (50th), Tuomie (52nd/PP) and Baumgartner (16th), Kainz (38th).
