Nature as a driving force
Salzburg’s tourism experts focus on the alpine summer
Nature, tranquillity and culture are the driving forces in Salzburg's tourism industry. And they should remain so. The number of overnight stays in previous seasons makes the tourism industry happy.
Salzburg's tourism experts are breaking records year after year. A plus in winter, more guests in summer. 14.7 million overnight stays were recorded in the province between November and April. This is an increase of 2.7 percent compared to the previous year. The Germans are in the lead, followed by the Austrians and the Dutch. The coming summer should also be more successful than previous summers. The focus is on tranquillity, nature and culture. And on Salzburg's alpine world.
Even the top chef has to wait
There are 1850 mountain huts in the province, with around 600 serving food and drink. One of them is the Muhreralm run by the Jäger-Gruber family in Großkessel near Zederhaus. Old farmer's wife Maria (84) has been on the alpine pasture every summer since 2013, looking after the cattle and guests. Her alpine butter is so popular that even locals sign up for a waiting list
Even top chef Rudi Obauer has to be patient for the butter. "Rudi is lucky that my mother-in-law likes him. And he sometimes gets a bit more than the others," says Andreas Jäger. Obauer then serves the Muhreralm butter in his award-winning restaurant in Werfen. Since 1979, the Obauer brothers Rudi and Karl have relied exclusively on the best products from the region. And perhaps this is why they are celebrating their 45th anniversary on May 1st.
