Injury in the Clasico: season over for Barca pro
Dutch international Frenkie de Jong's La Liga season is over after suffering an ankle injury in the "Clasico" against Real Madrid. Barcelona confirmed that the midfielder, who left the field injured on Sunday, had suffered a sprained ankle, with Spanish media reporting a five-week absence.
De Jong, who will also face Austria in his group at the European Championship finals, is expected to be fit for the EURO.
Out of shape for the EURO
According to Dutch reports, Bonds coach Ronald Koeman is nevertheless concerned. It is already the third ankle injury this season for his key player. De Jong only returned to the Barcelona squad a week and a half ago after an injury lay-off. The "Telegraaf" wrote that De Jong will probably not be fully fit for the European Championships either. Koeman is also worried about Memphis Depay. The Atletico Madrid attacker has been suffering from a muscle injury for two weeks. "For the umpteenth time, he will not be fit at the start of a major tournament," wrote the Telegraaf.
The Netherlands will first play against France, Poland and Austria at the European Championships. They will face the ÖFB team in the final group match on June 25.
