Cancelo: “Fans wished my daughter dead”

Joao Cancelo has become the victim of disgusting hate comments. After being knocked out of the Champions League quarter-finals, he read the worst messages in his Instagram inbox, with one Barcelona supporter even wishing his unborn daughter dead, as the defender told ESPN. 

"People are saying all sorts of things. There are comments on Instagram wishing my daughter, who hasn't even been born yet, dead", Cancelo revealed. Although he is aware: "They wouldn't say it to my face because then we would have a problem, but in the comments they write what they want." 

Last week, the Catalans were beaten 4-1 at home by PSG after their 3-2 victory in Paris, bringing the "premier class" adventure to an end for Cancelo and Co.

The fans took their frustration out on the players in a completely tasteless manner. The Portuguese, for example, cannot simply accept the comments: "They insult my partner, my daughter and our unborn baby. It's a cruel world and you have to know how to live with it. Wishing death on a baby is really serious. I just don't know what to say anymore. People don't think about the person behind the footballer they see on TV. We are human beings too."
