Body dismembered
Possible mafia murder: victim’s identity clarified
Following a brutal murder in an apartment in Vienna-Ottakring at the end of February, the identity of the victim has now been clarified. The body is that of a 27-year-old man with Serbian citizenship who had been involved in the drug scene.
This was confirmed by police spokeswoman Barbara Gass on Monday. The homicide may have had something to do with drug trafficking - a marijuana plantation had been operated in the apartment and its basement.
Victim abused and dismembered
The circumstances of the crime and the fact that the victim was abused indicate that it could be a mafia murder. The man's fingers were cut off, which prevented him from being identified by his fingerprints. The prosecution authorities relied on a DNA report.
Numerous stab wounds
The deceased also had numerous stab wounds to his upper body. Even at the beginning of the investigation, it was stated: "Due to the circumstances, there is a suspicion that this could be a case of organized crime."
