Rossi ends season with a loss – off to the World Championships
Marco Rossi from Vorarlberg has ended the season in the North American Ice Hockey League NHL with a defeat with Minnesota Wild and is now expected to join the Austrian national team for the World Championships in the Czech Republic in May.
Minnesota lost 3:4 at home to the Seattle Kraken on Thursday and missed out on a play-off spot by eleven points. Rossi was able to impress with strong statistics in his first full season.
The 22-year-old center played all 82 games in the basic round and recorded 40 scoring points with 21 goals and 19 assists. With his 21 goals, he was his team's fourth-highest scorer; since the Wild entered the NHL in 2000, only Kirill Kaprisov (27 goals in 2020-21) has scored more goals in his first season. Rossi is also the second-best scorer of all rookies this season behind 18-year-old Connor Bedard of the Chicago Blackhawks (22).
The NHL continues with the play-offs on Saturday.
The pairings:
Eastern Conference: Florida Panthers - Tampa Bay Lightning, Boston Bruins - Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Rangers - Washington Capitals, Carolina Hurricanes - New York Islanders
Western Conference: Dallas Stars - Vegas Golden Knights, Winnipeg Jets - Colorado Avalanche, Vancouver Canucks - Nashville Predators, Edmonton Oilers - Los Angeles Kings
