Betting fraud! Pöltl’s teammate banned for life
The 24-year-old Jontay Porter of the Toronto Raptors has been banned for life by the NBA. According to an announcement by the North American professional league (NBA) on Wednesday, the teammate of Jakob Pöltl from Vienna is accused of betting fraud.
An investigation revealed that Porter had violated league rules by passing on confidential information, restricting his own participation in one or more games for betting purposes and betting on NBA games.
"There is nothing more important than protecting the integrity of NBA competition for our fans, our teams and everyone involved with our sport, which is why Jontay Porter's apparent violations of our playing rules will be met with the most severe penalty possible," NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said in the release.
Unusual tips
The 24-year-old had been under investigation for weeks. During several of the Canadians' games this season, allegedly unusual bets on the center's performance were registered.
