An animal rights activist in Bad Erlach is sounding the alarm: The municipality is abandoning a pair of birds on the chimney of the former brickworks. The mayor rejects the accusation outright, saying that they are doing exactly what a real expert would have advised.

Too many cooks spoil the broth. According to the proverb, too many "architects" are likely to destroy the nest of Master Adebar in the Wiener Neustadt district. In Bad Erlach, complaints are piling up that the municipality has not managed to properly fix the completely crooked nest on the chimney of the former brickworks, which is in danger of falling, in two years.

Stork with a mini nest
"The stork has been coming here for many years and has always had three young in recent years," reports an animal rights activist. However, the nest has now been trimmed back to the diameter of the chimney: "While other storks are already breeding, this pair is standing rather helplessly on the mini nest," the eyewitness describes.

Bärbel Stockinger, Bürgermeisterin in Bad Erlach

Mayor called in experts
Mayor Bärbel Stockinger states in response to an inquiry from "Krone" that the storks in particular are being treated with the utmost care. "Following our inquiry to BirdLife, we were able to get the chairman of the Rust stork association to come and inspect the situation," emphasizes Stockinger.

"Don't mess with the nest"
The expert advised not to "mess with the nest" of the wild animal too much. The migratory bird manages to build the nest on its own. "We really do a lot for animals. But only what really helps them and not what self-appointed animal rights activists demand."
