Onset of winter
Shoveling snow takes the place of sun loungers
A drop in temperature of almost 30 degrees surprised the Styrians on Tuesday - winter even returned in many places.
Susanne Leitner from Wald am Schoberpaß was amazed on Tuesday when she looked out of the window: the whole place was white. "On Sunday I got sunburnt, today I'm thinking more about the Sonnberg lifts! Not even the chickens wanted to leave their coop," said the landlady.
Mariazell, Zeltweg, Oberwölz and Graz's local mountain, the Schöckl, were also "sugared up", and a few centimetres of snow even fell on the Stolzalpe.
Allergy sufferers can now breathe easy
Temperatures plummeted accordingly, almost 30 (!) degrees less than last weekend were measured in Styria. While Leibnitz was still the hottest place in the country on Monday with 28.1 degrees, it was Frohnleiten on Tuesday with just 5.5 degrees. The maximum temperature in Graz was three degrees. Allergy sufferers can breathe easy, for example grass pollen has been almost completely washed out of the air. But many drivers were in despair. The winter tire obligation ended on Monday, so those who already had an appointment to change their tires had to hope for snow and ice-free roads.
Unfortunately, there is no good news for Styria as far as the forecast for the coming days is concerned. The cold and wet weather will stay with us up to and including Sunday, with sun, clouds, rain and snowfall alternating again and again - April does what it wants. So don't forget your umbrella and winter jacket.
