Home World Cup in the Ländle
Will Pinkelnig and co. soon be flying in the Montafon?
Nobody knows just how brilliant home victories in the World Cup feel like like Alessandro "Izzi" Hämmerle. A month ago, the 30-year-old was euphorically celebrated by his fans after his fourth and fifth triumphs in the Montafon. A feeling that could also be experienced by ski jumping high-flyer Eva Pinkelnig in the future.
"The World Cup in Montafon was the highlight of the season for all the athletes," reveals Olympic champion Alessandro Hämmerle, who scored twice at the snowboard cross home event in March. And planning for 2025 is already in full swing. "We already have a proposed date that we still have to check internally," reveals OC boss Chisi Speckle. "However, it should be decided by mid-May."
The idea has been around for a long time
The Montafon would also be open to other World Cup events. While a return of the alpine skiers is rather unlikely in the short and medium term, the ski jumpers would be welcomed back with open arms. "The idea has been around for a while," says Christoph Kraxner, Head of Nordic Ski Jumping at the VSV and Head of the Montafon Ski Jumping Center, "and is still an issue. But it's not that easy to get them." Especially as two other locations in Austria, Hinzenbach and Villach, are already set. "We'll see what develops over the next few years." There is already a local hero in Eva Pinkelnig.
