Michaelerplatz: Man falls into excavation site
Alarm on Monday evening in Vienna's city center at Michaelerplatz: several firefighters from the professional fire department had to arrive to rescue a man from the excavation site of the Roman settlement. The passer-by had fallen into the site.
The emergency services immediately had to prepare the technical rescue in order to pull the casualty out of the excavation site, the professional fire department reported to the "Krone" on Monday evening.

Fortunately, the rescue operation was quickly brought to an end, and after around 20 minutes the passer-by was freed from the historic excavation site on Michaelerplatz. According to the rescuers, the man was in good health. He suffered no injuries and was also responsive.
Despite the rainy weather, countless onlookers gathered next to the Hofburg in the evening to watch the operation. It is unclear why the man fell into the excavation site. Fortunately, however, he remained unharmed.
