Major fire in Lustenau destroys two apartments
During the night from Saturday to Sunday, the fire department had to respond to a fire in an apartment building in Lustenau. No one was injured, but two apartments are no longer habitable until further notice.
At 0.42 a.m., the police received an emergency call reporting a fire in a block of flats in Lustenau. When the officers arrived, the affected apartment was already fully engulfed in flames. Fortunately, some of the residents had already raised the alarm and left the building, and the police evacuated the entire block.
The firefighters quickly brought the fire, which had spread to a second apartment in the meantime, under control. At the same time, the firefighters combed the building for other residents. To ensure that no one was missing, the rescue team set up a collection point.
Fortunately, everything turned out well in the end and there were no injuries. At around 1.50 a.m., the fire was finally put out. However, the damage to the two apartments is immense and they are uninhabitable for the time being. One of the affected residents has found accommodation with friends, the other has moved into the council's emergency accommodation.
The cause of the fire is likely to have been smoldering cigarette butts that were stored in a residual waste bag on a balcony - this is also indicated by the severe damage to the façade at this point.
