Car burst into flames on Swiss highway
Unsuspecting anything bad, a 31-year-old man was driving on the A13 in the direction of St. Margrethen in neighboring Switzerland on Thursday. Near Sargans, the car suddenly stopped accelerating and smoke billowed out of the engine compartment. A short time later, the car was no longer even worth scrap metal.
The Swiss driver, who was traveling on the highway with two colleagues, steered his vehicle onto the emergency lane when he noticed the loss of power and the smoke. All three occupants were able to get out of the car in time and were uninjured.
A short time later, the vehicle was already fully engulfed in flames. The Floriani firefighters were able to extinguish the fire quickly. The fire department then attended to an oil spill. The burnt-down car had previously leaked a lot of it. The trail stretched for several hundred meters.
Bad luck for the driver
The police, who had also been called out, carried out an alcohol test on the 31-year-old driver, which turned out positive. The man will be reported to the public prosecutor's office in St. Gallen.
