Traffic in the high mountains
Excitement about transit tariff for Glocknerstraße
The Grossglockner High Alpine Road is to become a congestion-free alternative route for the A10. This is the wish of the public limited company behind it - the "Krone" reported. Not everyone is happy about this, not least because transit through the national park is also cheaper.
Away from the traffic jams on the Tauern highway and up to the panoramic road in the high alpine Glockner region. The almost 90-year-old Grossglockner High Alpine Road is to become an alternative route for holidaymakers to the A10 congestion route. Tourist transit traffic would flow via the toll road in the Hohe Tauern National Park, via Fuschertörl and Hochtor. These are the plans in the country. Environmentalists and conservationists are alarmed - the "Krone" reported.
Holidaymakers drive cars ten euros cheaper
Are German or Dutch drivers of caravans and family coaches really aware of the route? The Glockner Road is 48 kilometers long from Fusch-Ferleiten to Heiligenblut in Carinthia. At over 2500 meters above sea level, it goes up and down again in 36 hairpin bends.
For vacationers, the trip on the road is even cheaper than for day visitors to the Glockner. Cars pay 33 euros instead of 43 euros - if they can show a booking confirmation.
It's a prankster who thinks evil when locals once again pay the normal price, but transit drives through the country at a reduced rate.
