Gardos/Polcanova miss out on Olympic ticket for now!

Austria's table tennis duo Robert Gardos/Sofia Polcanova lost in the semifinals of their tournament in Havirov in the Czech Republic on Thursday at the start of the Olympic qualification in the mixed event and will therefore have to try again for a ticket to Paris on Friday! 

After a walk-through in the round of 16, the pair defeated the Serbs Dimitrije Levajac/Izabela Lupulesku 4:0 (10,4,1,8), but lost to the Spaniards Alvaro Robles/Maria Xiao 1:4 (8,-5,-2,-4,-8) in the afternoon.

Of the 26 pairs competing on Thursday, only the winners of two tournaments were guaranteed a quota place. The remaining 24 pairs will try again on Friday in the same format, meaning that a total of four tickets for the Games will be awarded at this event.

Good chances for Olympic participation
If Gardos/Polcanova miss this chance on Friday, they still have a good chance of making it to the Olympics via their world ranking. So far, no red-white-red table tennis players have qualified for the major summer sporting event.
